Why does my Mac suddenly have no sound?
There are several reasons why your laptop’s audio may not be working and the following can assist you to eliminate the basic ones.

The malfunction of the speakers and even just one speaker can affect the sound.
Volume could be muted on your Mac.
Windows may be sending sound to the wrong audio device.
Audio enhancements can affect the sound.
Conflicting audio drivers could be a problem after you have updated your operating system.

Volume
Click on the speaker icon and make sure the volume is on and turned up.
Use headphones
If the audio works it means you have a problem with your built-in speakers.
Audio Devices
Your operating system may be sending sound to the incorrect audio device.
Select one device at a time and if the sound works you have found the problem.
Disable any audio enhancement.
A built-in feature that improves your audio experience can be disabled.
Finally:
This kind of issue can be open-ended as the Mac designs up until 2015 made a chime sound when powered on whilst the newer ones do not so it mean there could be several new technical issues to resolve.
