Does more memory improve video editing on my Apple Mac? Updated 2023

Having more memory is vital for every part of the video editing process and is recommended for any video editor looking to revitalize their struggling machine.

Should you consider a 32GB or 64GB Ram?

32GB RAM

Is 32GB RAM too much for video editing? Each editing software will have its own specs but in general 32GB of RAM is sufficient. If you are editing higher resolution files more than 32GB can be beneficial but not required. Data must be quickly accessible to both the CPU and RAM so storage speed is crucial.

64GB RAM

Is 64GB RAM enough for 4K video editing? For some editing projects, 16-32GB of RAM will be enough. However, if you are working with lots of Effects or higher Bit-depths you should consider 64GB for best performance.
